III.AGRICULTURAL PRODUCERS COOPERATIVE MARKETING SOCIETIES

1. OBJECTIVES

  • Facilitating the marketing of Agricultural Produce of the farmer members at remunerative prices.
  • Marketing of Agricultural inputs at reasonable prices.
  • Issuing Produce Pledge Loan for Agricultural Produce.
  • Processing of Agricultural Produce
  • Marketing of Value Added Agricultural Produce.

2.STRUCTURE

  • The Structure of Cooperative Marketing Societies in Tamil Nadu is a Two-Tier structure.
  • Tamil Nadu Cooperative Marketing Federation is functioning as the apex society.
  • 115 Agricultural Producers Cooperative Marketing Societies are functioning at Taluk Level.

3.MARKETING OF AGRICULTURE PRODUCE

  • Marketing of Agricultural Produce by providing marketing facilities such as Auction yards, Drying facilities, Produce Pledge Loans and thereby facilitating the farmer members and traders to sell their products at a remunerative price in a transparent manner.
  • They are not only engaged in purchase, process and sale of agricultural produce but also in value addition of products.

4. AUCTION SALES

  • Agricultural producers and traders bring their agricultural produce to auction yards and sell them through auction.
  • Farmer members get remunerative price by selling their agricultural produce through auction yards.
  • Services like weighing of Agricultural produce, details of Market strategy and storage facilities are provided.

5. ISSUE OF PRODUCE PLEDGE LOAN

  • During the harvest season, farmers invariably resort to distress sales unwillingly to meet their urgent needs for cash.
  • To avoid this and to protect the interest of farmers, Cooperative Marketing Societies and Primary Agricultural cooperative Credit Societies provide produce Pledge Loans.
  • By this, Farmers are able to store their produce and to sell them at higher remunerative price.

6.JEWEL LOAN

  • To cater to the urgent financial needs of farmer members, Jewel Loans are being disbursed by fixing per gram rate of gold not exceeding 75% of the prevailing market rate.

9.PROCUREMENT OF COPRA UNDER PRICE SUPPORT SCHEME (PSS)

  • Whenever market price of copra is low, copra procurement will be undertaken at the Minimum Support Price by TamilNadu Cooperative Marketing Federation by acting as a State level agency on behalf of NAFED.

10. PADDY PROCUREMENT UNDER MINIMUM SUPPORT PRICE (MSP)

  • Whenever market price of Paddy is low, Agricultural Producers Cooperative Marketing Societies and Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Societies will procure Paddy  from farmers on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation in non delta areas at the Minimum Support Price.
  • To avoid additional expenses to farmers, paddy is procured in farm lands (or) through cooperatives near by.

11.Mobile App :

  • To market the Cooperative products through online, a common mobile APP (CO -OP Mart) has been launched by Hon’ble Minister for Cooperation on 06.07.2023.

12.ISO Certification

  • ISO 9001 certification has been obtained for Agricultural Producers Cooperative Marketing Societies and its various units

The Tiruchengode Agricultural Producers Cooperative Marketing society Ltd., Tiruchengode was registered on 16.04.1930 and started functioning on 30.04.1930. The area of operation of the society is confined to Salem and Namakkal Districts:

1. OBJECTIVES:

  • To arrange for the marketing of Agricultural produce of the agricultural members at Reasonable price,
  • To advance loans on the pledge of Agricultural produce and Jewels,
  • To effect recovery of crop loans issued by the Primary Agricultural Co-op. Credit Societies through the sale of produce of the members,
  • To distribute input requisites of the agriculturists,
  • To supply other necessaries of life to the members and public.

2. BRANCHES:

The society is having two branches; one at Konganapuram, which was started on 05.12.1936 and the other at Mallasamudram, which was started on 16.7.1975. Also, there are seasonal Agricultural Marketing centers at Thevoor, Jelagandapuram. Mamundi.

3. MANAGEMENT:

The society is managed by the Board of Directors elected among the members of the society and a managing director appointed by the government of Tamilnadu.

4. MEMBERSHIP AND SHARE CAPITAL

The total number of members as 31.03.2023 was 102958 with a paid-up share capital of Rs.29,83,163.00 of the total members 65132 were members and 37948 were associate members. The Government share capital outstanding as on date is Rs.4,80,000.00

5. BORROWINGS AND DEPOSITS:

The maximum borrowing power of the society is 8 times the paid up share capital plus Reserve Fund. The amount outstanding towards Government loans, deposits and staff security deposit as on 31.03.2023 were to the tune of Rs.3525.61 Lakhs and Rs.64.31 lakhs respectively. The loans received from the Government were only for the construction of Godowns. The society has got cash credit accounts with the Central Coop. Bank Ltd., Salem to meet its marketing operations. The society also collects deposits from its members

6. IMPORTANT ACTIVITIES:

(i) MARKETING:

The main crops cultivated and marketed in the area are Cotton, Turmeric,Coconut Kernels, Groundnut, Gingelly, Castor seeds and Sunflower Seeds. The season for summer Cotton is from July to September, winter cotton is from December to April , Groundnut from September to February, Gingelly from June to October , Castor seeds from December to March , Turmeric from Feburary to October and coconut kernels from Feburary to July.

(ii)   DISTRIBUTION OF AGRICULTURAL INPUTS, IMPLEMENTS AND OTHERS:

The society distributes agricultural inputs like chemical fertilizers, seeds, oilcakes, cattle feeds etc., and supplies agricultural implements to the farmers.  The society distributes all  these agricultural inputs  through its 3 Seva kendras situated in the  areas of Tiruchengode, Konganapuram and Mallasamudram. 

(iii) STORAGE FACILITIES:

There are 23 Godowns with a total capacity of 25390 MT to market the agricultural produce brought by the farmers and to keep the stocks in safe custody till the sale proceeds dues are collected from the merchants who purchased the same in auction sales

(iv)LINKING OF CREDIT WITH MARKETING.

The society is implementing the scheme of linking of credit with marketing. The scheme is implemented during the period of cotton and groundnut harvest seasons.

(v)LOANS TO MEMBERS.

(a) Produce Pledge Loan

The Society is advancing loans on the pledge of produce so that the farmers can store their produce and sell them at a better price.

(b)Jewel Loan

The society has got own funds of Rs.7286.85 lakhs as on 31.03.2023. The society could use these funds only during harvest seasons. During off seasons, the society could not utilize the funds profitably but only invested in banks at a lower rate of interest without proper utilization. Hence, the society advances loans to members on the pledge of Jewels from 04-10-94 on wards to get better returns. By harnessing the available funds in Jewel loans, the society is now able to deploy them profitably. The society issues Jewel loan to their members at lower interest through 11 centres.

vi.PROCESSING ACTIVITIES:

The society owns six Rottaries at Tiruchengode to process the Agricultural Commodities purchased by the society in outright and from its own marketing yard and to process the agricultural commodities of its members. The Society is manufacturing �ARTHANAREESWARA� Brand Agmark Gingelly oil, Groundnut Oil,Coconut oil,Agmark Turmeric Powder and Arthanareeswara Brand Agmark Rice varieties 5kg, 10kg, 25kg &75kgs bags and sells through its retail outlets and also supplies to other Cooperative Institutions.

The Pulses processing unit was installed at our Mallasamuthram Branch. The Society undertakes the processing of Toor Dhall and Urid  Dhall   in these units and the same is sold through  its retail outlets and also supplies  to  other Co-op Institutions. 

vii. PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM:

(a) Sale of controlled commodities.

The society owns 24 Fair Price shops and Kerosene Bunk in Tiruchengode town and distributes controlled goods to the public. The society as a lead society supplies controlled goods to the 231 Fair price shops run by 37 Primary Cooperative. Credit  Societies and 2 Primary   Cooperative Stores in Tiruchengode taluk. Out of the total 257 Fair Price Shops, Non-controlled goods are supplied to 233 other Fair Price shops and to 24 Fair Price Shops owned by this society.

(b) Sale of Non-Controlled Commodities.

Besides the fair price shops, the society runs its own consumer branches in Tiruchengode, Mallasamudram and Konganapuram where all Groceries and Cosmetic items at are sold at cheap rates to the public competing with the private traders.  The society also sells goods like  Medicines and Drugs, Iron & Steel, Chappals, Milk, Cottonseed  fodder, Bran and oil cake etc. through its own outlets to facilitate the farmer members.

  (c) SELF SERVICE SECTION:

The Society has constructed a separate two storeyed building for its self-service sales section at a cost of Rs. 36.44 Lakhs. Nearly 4850 items are stored in the section and the average sales value including  Furniture etc., is Rs.3.00 lakhs per day.

VIII. OTHER ACTIVITIES:

(i) PETROLEM PRODUCTS
(a). Liquefied Petroleum Gas.

The society, as a distributor of Indane Gas, distributes LPG cylinders, stoves and appliances to the public of Tiruchengode town from 1984. The society maintains 196801 domestic and 3005 Non-domestic LPG connections in Tiruchengode Town

(b)Servo Stockist (Automotive Lubricants)

The society has been appointed as a Servo oil Stockist for Salem  District by the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.,

Servo oil stock  such  as  Engine  Oil, Gear oil,  Brake oil,  Coolants,  Greases etc. are sold and delivered to IOC Retail Outlets (Petrol & Diesel Bunks)  servo oil shops and to mechanic work shops etc. in the  District of Salem through lorries since 12-09-2003. 

(c) Petrol Bunk

The society has also been appointed as the Retail dealer of the Indian Oil Corporation for the sale of petrol and diesel in the premises of the society at Tiruchengode. The society has been awarded 1st place for its best performance in the sale of Petrol in Namakkal District.

The society has also been appointed as dealer of the Indian Oil Corporation for the sale of AUTO GAS in the petrol bunk premises of the society at Tiruchengode. 

(ii) LORRIES :

The society owns Four Lorries which are hired to members on nominal charges and for the use of the society.

(iii) DAIRY SCHEME:

Besides its major marketing activities, the branch at Konganapuram is also running a Dairy Scheme from February 1971. Under this scheme the value of milk procured at present rose to 24.64 lakhs per annum by an average supply of 92226 liters of milk per year.

(iv) MEDICAL STORES:

Through its medical stores, the society distributes drugs and medicines, at reduced rates offering up to 20% discount to the customers.

(v) IRON AND STEEL SALES:

To meet the building construction needs, ISI Mark Iron Rods from reputed concerns like TATA TISCON RAN-INDIA & JSW ranging from 6mm to 25mm are purchased and distributed to the public.

(vi) Coconut Oil Bath Soap:

Arthanareeswara coconut oil bath soap production center has been started on 28.07.2022 at head office. Coconut oil bath soap with 6 varieties of fragrance has been produced and sells through its retail outlets and also supplies to other Cooperative Institutions.

7.GENERAL:

The society is working profitably from its inception onwards.  The society has thrice been awarded with ‘‘Dr. Punjab Rao Deshmukh Award'' by NAFED, New Delhi for its best performance in marketing of agricultural produce during the years 1989-90, 1990-91 and 1993-94. In addition to this, cash award of Rs.10,000 each for the years 1989-90, 90-91 and 1993-94  has  also been  provided to the  society.  Further, the society has been awarded  as the best Co-operative Marketing Society in the State of Tamil Nadu several times The society has been awarded the Best Co-operative Marketing Society in the state of Tamilnadu for the year 2022-2023. The society pays 14% dividend to its members and Bonus as per Bonus Act to its employees.  The society has been continuously placed in "A" Class under Audit. 



THE NILGIRIS CO-OPERATIVE MARKETING SOCIETY

The NCMS was registered on 08.12.1935 and the authorized share capital of the society is Rs.50,00,000/-. The area of operation of society is Ooty, Coonoor, Kotagiri, Gudalur, Kundah and Pandalur Taluks and Municipality areas of Mettupalayam

1. OBJECTIVES

  • To safe guard the farmers by eliminating middleman in selling their agricultural products
  • To effect timely supply of farm inputs like mixed manures, Seeds of all varieties and farm implements.
  • To create awareness among the farmers about the new technologies and introduction of high yielding seeds, etc.,

2. MANAGEMENT

The society is managed by the Board of Directors elected among the members of the society and a managing director appointed by the government of Tamilnadu.

3. SALES UNITS

Nilgiris Co-operative Marketing Society is carrying out sales through its 17 retail sales Units besides its Head Office at Udhagamandalam and Mettupalayam Branch. 5. MARKETING OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCE

  • The Agricultural produce grown by the farmers of this District such as Potatoes, hill vegetables and garlic are marketed through the marketing yards of the society at Mettupalayam by daily auction to their best advantages, during the season commencing from June to December.
  • At Udhagamanadalam Municipal Market, Vegetable auction centre has been functioning in order to help the small and marginal farmers and those who bring their produce on head loads in open auction. Through this unit a significant quantum of agricultural produce are sold throughout the year. 

6. DIVERSIFICATION ACTIVITIES

(i). Jewel Loan:

The Society has started issue of jewel loan at its Mettupalayam branch from 19.08.1994 and subsequently additional jewel loan units were opened at the following places.

7.DISTRIBUTION OF KEROSENE

Distribution  of Kerosene Oil has been undertaken under public distribution system, for issuing kerosene to the Family Card holders.

The Society has 1.50 acre empty space. This has been used as parking ground for the tourist vehicles for past 22 years.

9. DISTRIBUTION OF INDANE LPG

The Society has been appointed as one of the Distributors of Indian Oil Corporation Limited for doing liquefied petroleum gas (Domestic cylinders) at ‘O’ Valley Town Panchayat of Gudalur Taluk of Nilgiris District. As on 31.03.2023, 11884 connections were released to the general public

10.MARRIAGE HALL

The Society has 2 marriage halls which are functioning in udhagamandalam and kotagiri .

11. STORAGE FACILITIES
  • The Society is already having 16 godowns with a total storage capacity of 14,575 MTs for storing agricultural inputs and agricultural produce for marketing.
  • The Society is having its own analytical laboratory at Mettupalayam and quality of fertilizer / mixtures is checked by the society.
  • The godowns are fully utilized by either storing commodities or by renting out the vacant godowns by which rental income is derived. The Society has rented out its surplus godowns to the following institutions.

The salem APCMS was registered on 25.02.1936 and started functioning from 16.09.1936. The area of operation of the society is salem, Omalur, Mettur, Yercaud and Valapady Taluks

THE ERODE AGRICULTURAL PRODUCERS CO-OPERATIVE MARKETING SOCIETY LIMITED

Thiru.S.K.Paramasivan Ex. M.P., a veteran  Co-operator established the Erode Agricultural Producers Co-operative Marketing Society Ltd on 31st January 1960.The society commenced its business on 29th June 1960. Its humble beginning was with 58 members and an initial share capital of Rs.14,885/-,. As on 31st March 2020, the societiy is with 35,405 members and share capital of Rs.43.35 lakhs.

Since 1990, the Society is functioning on net profit and disburses 14% dividend to its members.

ACTIVITIES

Erode district is the main market centre for Turmeric in Tamil nadu.It has also got the geographical index for turmeric. The Society arranges to market the agricultural produce of its members especially turmeric. The Society conducts e-Tender in its premises on all working days of the week. The highest rate offered by the trader in the tender is confirmed in consultation with the farmers. Further, only a nominal service charge of 1.5 percent is collected and the sale amount of turmeric is disbursed to the members through RTGS, NEFT and Cash on the spot itself.

ISSUE OF PRODUCE PLEDGE LOAN

The Society provides three month free storage in which free fumigation and insurance for the produce are done. The society also provides 70% of the current value of the turmeric stored in the godown subject to a maximum of Rs.10 lakh with 9 percent interest as produce pledge loan. This facilitates the farmers to store their produce and sell when the rates increase.

Value addition to the Agricultural Produce.

  • The Society, besides conducting turmeric sales through e-Tender, also purchases turmeric by participating in the e-Tender for “Stabilization of the price of Turmeric” in the market. The Society sells turmeric and its value -added products to many co-operative institution and also to some famous temples in Tamil Nadu with nominal margin of profit.
  • The Society has installed a turmeric powder plant, with a crushing capacity of 1300 MT/annum in its premises at a cost of Rs.10 lakhs with the financial assistance from NCDC in the year 1986.
  • The Society has installed masala powder unit in its premises at a cost of Rs.20 lakhs in the year of 2016 and started commercial production of Kumkum powder, Coriander powder,  Chilly powder, Sambar powder, Rasam mix powder, Mutton masala, Chicken masala, Ragi powder, Bajji and Bonda mix. These Products are sold in the brand name of  “Mangalam” at a reasonable price to the consumer.

PERUNDURAI AGRICULTURAL PRODUCERS COOPERATIVE MARKETING SOCIETY LTD.

The Perundurai Agricultural Producers Cooperative Marketing Society Ltd., was registered on 25.07.1942 . and started  functioning from the same day - 25.07.1942, with a membership of 72 and a share capital of Rs 17,550/- At present, the society is functioning with 11,295 member farmers from perundurai Taluk  with a share capital of Rs.3.24 lakhs.

OBJECTIVES

  1. To meet out the Marketing requirements of farmers and traders.
  2. To fetch a good price for the agricultural produce of the members.
  3. Disburse produce pledge loan on their agriculture produces.
  4. To handle the large scale movement of Agricultural Producers, in a minimum time period with ease.

MANAGEMENT OF THE SOCIETY

The society is managed by the Board of Directors elected among the members of the society and a managing director appointed by the government of Tamilnadu.

The Society has been continuously earning profit and declares 14 percent dividend to its members since 2006. . The funds of the society include deposits to the tune of Rs.52.12 lakhs.

MARKETING OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCES

  • The Society undertakes coconut copra e- auction sales on every Wednesday and Saturday of a week.
  • The society is functioning with necessary infrastructure facilities like tender Hall, godowns, yards, payment counters, sanitary facilities etc.
  • Secret system (online), of auction is followed in the society that ensures remunerative price to the farmers, for which a nominal service charge of .0.25 paisa Per Kg is collected from the members and Traders.
  • Once the sale proceeds are over, the sale amount of coconut Copra is paid to the members through RTGS.

VARIOUS KINDS OF LOANS

    I. Produce pledge loan

• A produce pledge loan issued to members upto maximum of Rs. 10 lakhs

II. Jewel Loan

To fulfill the immediate financial needs of the members the Society is disbursing jewel loan amounting to approximately Rs. 1.5cr annually.

III. Electronic Weigh Bridge

The society installed an electronic weigh bridge with a capacity of 60 MT with the financial assistance from CRDF and started functioning from 24.02.2014. Since then, the society has been providing service to the members and traders at a nominal charge. The society yields a revenue of Rs.30,000/- p.m.by serving approximately 3000 members per month.

IV. COMMON SERVICE CENTRE

A common service centre is being run by the society in coordination with the revenue department and various departments of the government. The society earns an annual profit of   R 1.2 lakhs approximately.

V. Value added Products
  • The society has installed a gingelly Seeds Crushing Unit, Groundnut and Coconut copra crushing unit with a capacity of 600 MT per annum, at a cost of Rs.28.54 lakhs in its premises for which interest free loan of Rs 20 lakhs was received from Cooperative Research and Development Fund (CRDF) and started functioning from 19.06.2015.
  • The Society has gone for  the value addition of gingelly Seeds, Groundnut and Coconut copra.
  • The products are sold in the Brand name of “Pasumai Cooking Oil” with FASSAI” certification in 50 ml, 200ml, 500ml and 1000ml  oil packets and ½ litre, 1 litre containers.
  • The approximate annual sales of cooking oil is Rs 60 lakhs.
VI.PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM

Since 25.11.1994,  The Society has been acting as a lead society and distributig controlled commodities to 150 fair price shops in Perundurai Taluk. The society runs 29 full time and 6 part time fair price shops under its direct Control. The society also runs a kerosene Bunk

VII. Godowns

The Society owns 9 godowns with a total capacity of 5100 MTs which include 1000MTs-3 Nos. 500MTs-3Nos. and each one of 300MTs, 200MTs and 100MTs.  The society owns a marketing yard too.

AUDIT

The Society has completed it’s audit upto 31.03.2022 and placed under “A” class. As per audit report, the society has earned a net profit of 16.83 lakhs..

LAMPS Federation :

In order to plan the growth and development of Tribal people, to ensure higher earning, create employment opportunities, to improve the sales of Minor Forest Produce and to coordinate the various activities of LAMP Societies, a State Level LAMPS Cooperative Federation as Apex Federation was formed. This Federation was registered on 03.08.2022 and started functioning from 01.11.2022.

Objectives

  • To ensure and to improve the life-style and socio economics of the hill tribals, in purchasing the minor forest products, and to arrange storage facilities and marketing the products.
  • To ensure and help the tribals by proving integrated credit and other services and facilities for increasing employment, production and income.
  • To supervise and monitor the implementation of the Government schemes for the hill tribals.
  • To organize, plan the growth, development of natural products and their trade on rational, scientific, commercial basis in the interest of the tribal population.
  • To strive to ensure higher earning and larger employment opportunities for the tribal population by formulation of suitable economic schemes based on natural products.
