OBJECTIVES

  • Large Sized Multipurpose Cooperative Societies were formed for the benefit of Tribal people and those living in hilly areas. 
  • There are 39 Large Sized Multipurpose Cooperative Societies functioning in the State. 
  • Their primary objective is to provide credit and distribute agricultural inputs in order to improve farm productivity.
  • They also help in marketing agricultural produce and minor forest produce of Tribal people, apart from providing essential commodities through PDS shops and Super markets.

Upliftment of Tribal Livelihoods
  • • To uplift the livelihood of Tribal people and to get remunerative prices for their Agricultural Produce without any loss, the scheme of selling their Minor Forest Produces such as Honey, Samai, Tamarind and Varagu by procuring through LAMPS and packing them with a common brand name was started by the then Hon’ble Chief Minister on 20.06.2013.
  • Under this scheme, Jawadhu and Arunoothumalai Large Sized Multipurpose Cooperative Societies are selling the following products.

TRIBAL SUB PLAN SCHEME
  • To assist LAMPS to render continuous service to their members, the Government is providing financial assistance under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) Scheme to the LAMPS by way of Interest subsidy for SHG loan and MT loan and and Share Capital assistance to the members.

Kilakkadu Large Area Multi purpose Cooperative Society Ltd.,  with registered office address at Serappattu post -606 401, Kalvarayanmalai taluk, Kallakurichi district, was registered on 28.09.1976, and started functioning from 30.09.1976.

1)Area of operation;

3) Details of management

           The management of society vests with board of directors of the society elected by the members of the society as per the provisions of the Tamilnadu Cooperative Societies Act 1983 and the Tamilnadu Cooperative Societies Rules 1988.

4) Objectives of the society:

        The objectives of the society are

  1. Providing short term and medium term loans to tribal people in hilly areas for agriculture.
  2. Purchase and supply of fertilizers, seeds, pesticides and agricultural equipments to the members of the society.
  3. Procurement of minor forest produce , milk products, agriculture produces and sale of such produces through cooperative marketing societies and other cooperative institutions.
  4. Establishment of processing centres/cold storage warehouse to value add the agri and minor forest produces. Sale of such value added produces through cooperative societies.
  5. Assisting members of the society in procurement of agricultural equipments and machinery and to take agri equipments and machinery through Agri services for rent.
  6. To assist the members of the society to establish dairy and livestock farms.
  7. Establishment of warehousing facilities for storage of agricultural produce .
  8. To inculcate ideals such as thrift, self help and cooperation among members..
  9. Setting up of Mini Super Market, thereby selling products from cooperative societies to cater to the needs of the people.
  10. Provision of loans and financial assistance to tribal population by way of collecting membership fees, deposits from members of the society and by getting grants and financial aid from government through cooperative banks.
  11. Acting as agents of PACCS  and Rural Development Banks and providing long term loans to members in their respective jurisdiction.
  12. Acting as agent of APCMS and selling produce within the business boundaries.
  13. To take lease of profitable minor forest produce units and to provide employment opportunities by engaging the population in harvesting and selling those products.
  14. Uplifting the economic status of the members of the society within the boundaries of the affairs of the society, subject to the policies and objectives of cooperatives.

5) Types of loans disbursed

  1. Having tribal people as it’s members, this society is engaged in providing crop loans, jewel loans, SHG loans and other medium term loans.
  2. Government subsidy and share subsidy are being provided to tribal people.
  3. Short term and medium term loans are treated as interest free loans till due date.
  4. Tribal members are being given loans at a subsidized rates of 50% and 75% in medium term.
  5. Loans are being provided at 90% subsidized rate to tribal sericulturists.
  6. Crop Loan, Jewel Loan, Medium term Loan, Self Help Group Loan are some of the types of loans being disbursed.

6)Public distribution system:

Kilakkadu lamp society runs 7 full time shops , 4 part time shops and 1 mobile fair price shops for sale of PDS commodities.

7)Fertilizer sales

To increase profit fertilizers is sold to members.

8)Processing unit

The society  runs processing unit where tamarind is being processed, value added ,and marketed profitably and sold through cooperatives. In the previous year, 0.88 MT of Tamarind was Processed and sold for Rs 0.22 Lakhs.

9) Common service center

Lamp has been running a common service center and providing  essential public services such as disbursement of application forms, certificates and making utility payments such as electricity bills, telephone bills etc.,

10) Procurement and sales of Minor forest produce

Minor forest products such as honey, kadukkai, tamarind, curry leaves are procured and sold through cooperatives.

In the previous year,  4.50 tonnes of kadukkai was sold  for Rs.1 lakh.

11)Procurement and sales of agricultural products

Agricultural products from hills are procured from farmers and sold through cooperatives.

In the previous year,  50 tonnes of Maize was sold  for Rs.11.38 lakhs

The Kilakkadu lamp society caters to the basic needs of tribal population by providing them employment opportunities, by meeting their financial requirements, by achieving economic growth, by providing basic facilities, by giving good price for agricultural produce, by providing warehousing facilities and by distribution of essential commodities.

JAWADHU HILLS LARGE AREA MULTIPURPOSE COOPERATIVE SOCIETY LTD.,

Jawadhu Hills Large Area Multi purpose Cooperative Society Ltd.,  with registered office address at Jamunamarathur village, Jamunamarathur taluk, Tiruvannamalai district-635703. It was registered on 10.01.1977 and started functioning from 10.02.1977.

To raise the standard of life of its members this society procures various products from tribal people. In order to add value to these products Samai processing Unit, Honey Processing Unit and Tamarind Processing Unit were established . These items are processed and marketed profitably.

Yercaud lamp society runs 21 full time shops , and  8 part time shops for sale of PDS commodities.

Approximately Rs 50-55 lakh worth of fertilizer sales are done by the society.

Lamp has been running a common service center and providing  essential public services such as disbursement of application forms, certificates and making utility payments such as electricity bills, telephone bills etc.,

Minor forest products such as honey, kadukkai, tamarind, Pepper, Millets are procured and sold through cooperatives.

In the Current year,7.50 tonnes of Pepper was sold  for Rs.32.92 lakh.
